As part of a yearlong artist residency I completed a mural depicting the history of flight for the stellar folks at Aeronaut Brewing Co in Somerville, MA.

Since the dawn of time humans have fantasized about flight. This mural is a fond, not-too-rigorous survey of that history, as told through triumphs of human ingenuity as well as superlatives in the animal kingdom.

FACT: The common swift can fly uninterrupted for up to ten months at a time, then it comes home and builds a gross nest out of spit.
FACT: Valentina Tereshkova was both the first woman and the first civilian in space in 1963.
FACT: In 1966, the U.S.S. Starship Enterprise delivered humanity’s first primetime vulcan appearance.
FACT: 1783 saw the launch of both the first manned hydrogen balloon and the first manned hot air balloon.
FACT: The Brazilian free-tailed bat can fly up to 100 mph in horizontal flight, making it the fastest animal on earth.
On completion of the mural Aeronaut hosted a grand reveal ceremony onsite to show off my work.
This mural was the largest scale I’ve worked on to date, and it taught me loads about workflow and best practices.
